FERNANDO COHEN (BRAZIL)
Fernando has been taking photos since he was a boy. "I can vividly recall the first pictures I took in my life when I was six. I was on the beach using a Kodak Instamatic while my father taught me how to frame a shot being careful to not cut off peoples heads all the while making sure the sun was behind me." Now a father, a Portuguese teacher, a textbook editor, he doesn't follow a traditional playbook. For him, as Cartier-Bresson once said, photography is a "way of shouting, of freeing oneself...not of proving or asserting one's own originality. It is a way of life." Fernando Cohen is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil and frequently shoots with the Ricoh GR.
